Step-by-Step Guide to Filing a Claim

Contact the Facility Manager

  • As soon as you believe you may need to file a claim contact the manager of the storage facility where your items are stored.

Complete Tenant Claim Affidavit

  • You can download the form here or one can be emailed to you. There are fields for you to add the appropriate information, make your statement, and then sign the document.

Complete the Itemized Inventory

  • You can download a sample spreadsheet here or one can be emailed to you. To complete this form, you’ll need receipts for damaged items. You will need website links to prove the value of items over $500.

Take Pictures

  • Upon discovery of damage or theft, have the store manager accompany you to your unit and take pictures.
  • Pictures showing the source of the damage are needed.
    • Water Damage: where the leak originates
    • Rodent Damage: torn objects, droppings, clear signs of rodents
    • Theft: Photos showing forced entry, or a cut or damaged lock or latch and a screenshot of the security footage at the time the lock was cut

If possible, send all of these photos in a single email.

Final Steps

  • Submit all documents and pictures to claims@storage-shield.com
  • After all documents and pictures are received, the claim will be approved or denied.
  • If it is approved, a Release Agreement will be created and will include the amount of reimbursement.
  • Once the Release Agreement is signed by both you and a Witness, it should be scanned and emailed back to the adjuster.
  • Be sure to indicate your correct address for timely receipt of your check.
  • It should take 30 to 60 days for you to receive your check.
